Tom and Donna NashWe met Tom and Donna at a party hosted by Dean and Julie Taylor last summer. Tom is a nationally recognized portrait painter, and also a songwriter/artist who has recorded a well-received mini CD of artist-related songs here. Donna is a professional photographer who is also Tom's manager.

Thomas Oliver
Thomas is an editorial manager for the AJC and also a country songwriter working on his second CD of original material. His girlfriend Melissa (Mella-Donna) couldn't make it because the president of MARTA resigned and she had to cover the story. She would have cleaned up on the Jeopardy contest!

Team Donna
Donna paired up with Diane for Jeopardy. This put them at an immediate advantage since Diane and I had worked on all of the questions for the contest together. So the rule was that Diane couldn't answer until someone else had had a chance.

Team Tom
Tom's partner was Yvette Mayo (Donna-Eve). She is an artist as well, and picked up a few pointers from the master while she was there.

Team Thomas
Thomas teamed up with Shari Moss (Prima Donna). Shari is a book writer and folk singer, so these two had the literary end of things covered well.

Diane came up with this ingenious way to display the categories. We hung a jewelry organizer from a coat stand. In the pockets we put index cards with the category and amount on one side, and the question and answer on the other side.

The categories were Couples (people who are paired with a Tom or Donna), Just for Pun (Puns containing Tom or Donna), Song Lyrics (lyrics related to a T/D), Movie Roles (characters related to T/D), Factoids, More Factoids, Mixed Bag, History, and Literature. Plus there were two Bonus questions worth $500 each.

Meet Alex
Since I wrote down all the questions and answers, it was logical that I was Alex. After reading the answer, the first person to clap got the first crack at giving the correct question.
H: (Factoid) An herb known as Deadly Nightshade

When the contestant got the answer right, they received the card. At the end of the game, each team totalled up their points.

And the winner is...
Team Donna! And not because Diane knew all the answers, either. Donna possesses a real wealth of couch potato knowledge. Just the thing you need for this kind of game.

The Tom and Donna Jeopardy Contest Collage
The winners received this framed collage showing the faces of the Toms and Donnas mentioned during the game. Really, everybody was a winner, so everyone got one of these to take home. But Donna and Diane got the winner picture as well.

Afterwards, we went down to the studio. Since Tom, Thomas and Shari have all recorded things here, we played samples of their music. Tom tried out a couple of new ideas on the keyboard and we finally broke things up around 5:00am.
